  • Do You Need Pet Insurance? Here’s How to Decide

Pet insurance is one of the things that lots of pet owners notice about, and file away in the back of their heads at the’oh maybe I should get that for my dog’s document, only to shed that so-called document and eventually regret doing this. I’ll be the first to admit that I’m guilty of this myself, and it’s cost me thousands of dollars through the years. I can not tell you the number of times I’ve been sitting in a vet’s waiting area, crossing my fingers and praying to my own God my beloved dog will survive his latest foray into sickness, while at the exact same time stressing because I’m unsure when I’ll have the ability to pay for the bill at the end of the day.  Dogs get sick just like us but unlike us, they do not have to pay our bills when we must visit the physician.

Pets are costly, no doubt about it and vet bills could be simply outrageous, but those of you who actually do have pet insurance would most definitely vouch for the fact that you’re glad you’ve got it. Likewise to life insurance, car insurance, or some other sort of insurance, you might possess, pet insurance premiums are paid monthly to the business that delivers the plan and in return, your pet dog is covered financially for an array of health procedures. There are a range of distinct kinds of pet insurance plans you can buy for your pet, together with, yup you guessed it, the more expensive ones covering more expensive medical procedures, and the less costly plans not covering those more expensive procedures.

Every time I go to the vet, I recall that ‘file’ I locked out in the back of my mind, the one featuring the good’ol pet insurance if I or should I not, and each time this occurs, I mentally kick myself hard, very hard for not following up on it. Much as I write this now, I don’t have pet insurance for my own dog, and yeah I plan on blowing myself great and hard when I am finished writing this. Perhaps I should actually kick myself for real because this mental substance doesn’t appear to be working out so well.

Before you choose which pet insurance program is ideal for you, you definitely want to go over your choices, maybe with your veterinarian to ensure that you will be in the best position to not have to mortgage your home to cover that vet down the road. Perhaps I should take my own advice eh? For example, in case you’ve got a Labrador retriever, there’s a fairly good possibility that at some stage during its lifetime that damn dog is gonna eat something he should not, that will bring about a mad dash to your vet office to get a good stomach pump! Yeah, you got me, this has happened to me personally and the following scope set me back $800, which definitely came from Lars’s allowance!

I drink a good deal of coffee, far too much java actually, and more frequently than not, I find myself in Timothy’s, our local coffee shop my brother and I appear to have embraced as our home away from home. If I had to guess, I have paid for several decades of the pet insurance policy over the past few years in liquid gold, otherwise known as coffee. That is my way of saying that when I could throw money away on overpriced coffee on a daily, occasionally bi-daily foundation, then revamping my budget should allow me to cover pet insurance without me breaking my bank to do it. Stop and think for a moment, about something which you purchase on a daily basis, something that you know damn well you invest too much money on. Perhaps it’s java, maybe it is a pack of cigarettes. I myself won’t do this because I know that I spend too much money on coffee and would be a lot richer when I did not drink the damn stuff.

Pet insurance programs have a vast range when it comes to those pesky monthly premiums with a beginning as low as $10 and others going as large as $45 and up. Personally, if I had to purchase pet insurance for Lars, I would go with a mid of the package premium choice, as it is this kind of pet insurance program that could offer the type of coverage I’d need. If you opt for fundamental pet insurance, you’re covered for items that are thought of as fundamental vet procedures, which may vary from nail clipping which is actually done by a vet tech, not your vet, to diagnosing of an ear infection, to maybe even your pet’s yearly vaccine invoice. If you select a basic pet insurance plan and your dog eventually requires surgery, good luck as you’re outside in the cold on this one, which is precisely why I would not go cheap when it comes to policy. Yeah, I would opt to cover $35 per month for a policy that works out to $420 annually but that 420 would not only cover Lars’ trips to the veterinarian for basic stuff, but it would also cover expensive veterinary processes like tummy pumping, or in Lars’ case, his latest TPLO on his back left leg, that fortunately for me was graciously covered by Guide Dogs For The Blind, the amazing school where I obtained the Bar.

Possessing good pet insurance is similar to getting an ace in the hole, everyone would love to have it! You may pay for pet insurance each month and in the end, never will need to fully use it knowing what I know today, it would make me feel a good deal better knowing that I and Bar were coated. Next time you are at your vet, have a peek at an end table or countertop for you will surely find a stack of pet grooming pamphlets which will detail some of the popular pet insurance plans that are out there for puppies. Ask a lot of questions to be sure you are well aware of what you’re signing up for, and keep in mind, no matter is a stupid question.
